Recorded Audition Guidelines

1. Recorded applications must include the following:

a) a recording of a performance and spoken introduction

b) a completed Recorded Audition Submission Form (click here

2. Instructions for preparing the recording:

The recording should be made as following:

a) Spoken Introduction

Applicants should record a passage of themselves speaking in English. Applicants must first identify themselves by name and then say something about their musical background and the training they have had, their musical ambitions and reasons for applying for the course.

b) Performance

Applicants should record three pieces on their Principal Study. The pieces should

demonstrate a range of ability and provide contrasts of musical style and instrumental/vocal technique. The recorded performance should last no longer than 15 minutes in total.

3. Applicants should submit recordings as follows:

a) a videotape (PAL format preferred) AND

b) a CD/Minidisc recording of the same performance

All recordings should be clearly labelled with the applicant’s name, Principal Study and the course for which the applicant is applying. Please ensure that recordings are accompanied by a completed Recorded Audition Submission Form

Formats

We accept to following formats:

  • VHS (PAL and NTSC)
  • DVD
  • CD
  • MD
  • Cassette

We do not accept the following formats:

  • Hi8
  • MiniDV
  • VCD
  • MDLP (long play MDs)
  • HiMD

Please note: The College will not return recordings even if a place is offered. Applications are accepted only on this understanding.

4. Certification

The recorded performance must be certified as the applicant’s own unaided work by someone in authority, usually the applicant’s music teacher or, if not available, the Head Teacher or Head of Department.

5. Offers

Offers made on the basis of a video and recorded audition will be subject to confirmation of standards on arrival at the College. This will take the form of an audition and written test, to be held during Induction Week.

Applicants accepted by recorded audition who fail to confirm their performance/academic standard on arrival may be offered a place on a suitable alternative course offered at Trinity or have their place withdrawn altogether.

If the performance on the recording is found not to be the unaided work of the applicant, the place will be withdrawn immediately. No fees will be refunded.

All applicants will be required to complete an English Language Assessment prior to the beginning of their course.
