David Edmonds has spent seven years as a Board Member and Finance Chairman at Keele University, and is currently the Chairman of the Governors of Kingston University in South West London. He chairs Swanton Care and Community, a company providing care homes and services for people with learning disabilities and is on the Board of Barchester Healthcare, a major provider of homes for the elderly. He is Chairman of NHS Shared Business Services, a joint venture between the Department of Health and IT company Steria.He chairs E20 LLP, the body responsible for converting the Olympic Stadium, and is a Board member of the London Legacy Development Corporation, the body developing the Olympic Park.
His career included six years as the first Chairman of the Legal Services Board, the national regulator for legal services; and five years as the regulator for Telecoms in the UK. He was a founder member of the Board of Ofcom. In his earlier career he was a senior civil servant, the Chief Executive of the Housing Corporation, the government's social housing agency, and a Managing Director in the NatWest Group.
He has also served on the Boards of a number of FTSE companies, including a period as Chairman of Wincanton PLC a major logistics business.
Married with four children and eleven grandchildren, he is an enthusiastic supporter of the Royal Opera House, attending every production in each cycle, and has seen eight Ring Cycles in various parts of the world. He is a keen cyclist and a poor golfer.
