The ceiling in the Great Hall provides some of the best acoustics in the United Kingdom for large scale orchestral performance, and the Halls regularly welcome world renowned orchestras and ensembles for recordings and rehearsals.

Among those who choose the Great Hall as their preferred recording venue are Chandos Records, English National Opera, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Philharmonia, and the distinguished conductors Sir Simon Rattle, Sir Charles Mackerras and Richard Hickox.
