
Vice Chancellor and Rector of the University of Westminster from
January 1996 until July 2007 Dr Geoffrey
Copland studied Physics at Oxford University and
has a doctorate in Solid State Physics.
He spent two years as a post-doctoral researcher at Yale
University in the USA, followed by eleven years researching and
lecturing in physics at Queen Mary College and Queen Elizabeth
College. He has held a number of positions in higher
education organisations, including Vice-President of Universities
UK, Chair of Universities and Colleges Employers Association,
Trustee of Council for Industry and Higher Education, and
Vice-Chairman of London Higher
He was awarded the CBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours in
2007.
