Writing with Your Ears.

Local author Cherry Potts leads workshops using repertoire played by our Blackheath Halls Orchestra as a starting point.

Sunday 17th June 2012; 2.30 to 5.30pm.

Writing with Your Ears - Myth and Music

As Part of the Blackheath Opera experience, join local author (and opera chorus member) Cherry Potts  for an opportunity to write your own fairy tale while listening to the music of Massenet during an orchestra rehearsal. You don't need to be involved in the opera in any other way to sign up for this workshop.

Discover the power of music (particularly live music) to inspire plot, atmosphere and character development, explore the variations and patterns of a traditional tale and the influence of myth and legend, fairy/folk tales.

Feedback from 'Writing with your Ears' in January 2012: Very, very informative - the time passed so quickly. I never realised before how music could have such an impact on writing.

No writing experience necessary. Bring your pens and paper and prepare to have fun.

Everyone welcome.

Who will the audience think you are?

As Part of the Blackheath Opera experience, join local author (and opera chorus member) Cherry Potts for a writing workshop for Cendrillon Chorus Members, developing the character(s) they are portraying in the opera.

Bring your lunch and explore your character's back-story, 'voice', opinions and habits; decide what connections they have with other characters and discover what impact they have on the story-line.

Write a letter to one of the other characters as your character, that reveals as much of this as you think your character would want to…

No writing experience necessary. Bring your pens and paper and prepare to have fun.
