Friends
The Friends of Blackheath Halls was set up in 1991, when the Halls had been brought back into public use, with two main objectives:
to provide financial and voluntary support for the activities of the Halls and to be a source of cultural activities for the people of Blackheath and the surrounding area, and thereby increase their sense of community.
The Friends organisation is managed by a committee,
elected each year at the AGM. This is independent of the Halls
management but with representatives on the Halls management
board.
Friends pay an annual subscription, which is used to
fund the Friends' activities. Friends events also raise funds to
sponsor concerts and to support the Halls.
What We Do
Main activities organised by the Friends are:
Literary Evenings: well known authors talk about
their recently published books. There are 8-10 each
year.
Architectural Events: guided visits to building and
sites of architectural and environmental interest, normally in the
London area and often places not open to the public; including
discussion with the principal architect. The programme also
includes a summer weekend away and the annual Architectural Lecture
by an eminent member of the profession.
Cultural Visits, such as to the British galleries at
the V&A and to the Slade collection at UCL.
Friends Party, held just before Christmas each year.
This gives the Friends the opportunity to meet each other, provide
feedback to the committee and to learn about developments planned
by the Halls management.
Why Should You Join?
If you live within easy reach of the Halls, and you
are interested in enjoying and supporting the arts, and other
cultural activities, then you should become a Friend of the
Blackheath Halls: a successful Friends' organisation is essential
to any community venture.

- an increased sense of belonging to the Blackheath
community.
