Registration
Where a trust fund or other sponsoring organisation is paying your fees, you must bring a letter with you to Registration confirming this.
Students are contractually responsible for paying their fees. If a student fails to make proper arrangements to pay their fees, they will ultimately be withdrawn from their programme. The Conservatoire views seriously non-payment of fees and through internal sanctions and external agencies will pursue payment.
If you have concerns over your financial situation, Student Services are available for consultation and we suggest you seek guidance as soon as you think there may be a problem.
Home/EU undergraduate students funded by Student Finance
If you have applied to Student Finance, you will be sent a Student Finance Breakdown and a Payment Timetable by Student Finance Direct. You should bring both of these to registration.
If your fees are not paid in full, you must bring all forms you have received relating to your Financial Arrangement to Registration, together with a payment for the balance due.
If you do not have the forms by Registration, but have made an application, please bring the most recent correspondence with you.

If you have outstanding debt from previous years, you will not be allowed to enrol until these have been paid in full.
All self-paying students
A single fee payment must be made by 3 September 2016 if you are paying in full. Alternatively, you have the option to pay by three instalments if your total fee for the academic year as described on the Trinity Laban website exceeds £3300 for the academic year. This can only be done online via the following link: Online Payments.
Payments will be taken in three instalments: on setting up plan, 10 January 2017 and 19 April 2017.
There will not be an option to pay in more than three instalments. In the event of a failed or stopped instalment payment, the availability of payment by this method will cease and all outstanding fees will be due immediately.
No instalment plan will be allowed that has not been set up online via the link above, unless you have proof of a Career Development Loan (CDL) or a loan from outside the UK which is paid in instalments.
If you have outstanding debt from previous years, you will not be allowed to enrol until these have been paid in full.
Tier 4 student visa refusals
Tuition fees are normally fully refundable in case of visa rejection prior to enrolment on a programme. Students must provide evidence of the visa rejection from the UK Visa & Immigration to Registry.
US Federal Loans
If you have taken a US Federal Loan to cover your tuition fees, the amount borrowed will be deducted from your tuition fee liability upon registration.
You should also be aware of the Return of Title IV Funds policy.

Notification of deadlines and procedures for changing your studies
Withdrawals
If you withdraw from your programme by the end of induction/enrolment, you will need to visit Registry and inform us in writing. You will not be liable to pay any fees if you confirm your decision with Registry by this time.
Where a student wishes to withdraw from their programme part way through the academic year for whatever reason, subject to the student observing the above procedure for withdrawal, the Conservatoire will adjust their liability for tuition fees:
- Attendance on or after the first day of term 1: 1/3 of the full fees
- Attendance on or after the first day of term 2: 2/3 of the full fees
- Attendance on or after the first day of term 3: full fees
Fee liability for students with tuition fee loans (Student Finance) is as follows:
- Attendance on or after the first day of term 1: 25% of the annual tuition fee for your course will be payable
- Attendance on or after the first day of term 2: 50% of the annual tuition fee for your course will be payable
- Attendance on or after the first day of term 3: 100% of the annual tuition fee for your course will be payable
In the event of the formal withdrawal procedures not being observed, the student is liable for payment of fees in full for the academic year.
Trinity Laban reserves the right to retain any programme fees paid.
Where a student has taken out a tuition fee loan, Trinity Laban will notify the SLC of the last date of attendance and the student’s liability for fees will be communicated to the SLC on the above basis.
If you enrol later than the induction/enrolment period, you waive the opportunity to terminate your studies without a charge being incurred.
Late registration
Please note that you will not be able to register on any programme due to start in September later than 4 weeks after the beginning of the induction/enrolment session without prior permission from the Registry.
Students enrolling in January/February only
If you withdraw from your programme within 14 days of registration you will need to visit Registry and inform them of your decision in writing. You will not be liable to pay tuition fees if you confirm your decision with Registry by this date. Please note the latest you can register for a January start programme is 4 weeks from the date of enrolment.
Status changes (from full-time to part-time, part-time to full-time and interrupting your studies)
Status changes for programmes which commenced in September will need to be completed by the end of October. It will NOT be possible to change your status after this date unless there are Mitigating Circumstances (see below). The Change of Status form can be found on Moodle, or is available from Registry.
If you decide to change from full-time to part-time you should note that this will take effect from the following term and you will be charged a full-time fee for the first term following enrolment.
Returning to your studies after interrupting
Interruption of studies means that you are either considering or intending to interrupt or suspend study for a specific period of time, but that you intend to resume studies with Trinity Laban at a future date.
A student who returns from interrupting their studies will be charged for the period they are registered in the academic year on their return to study.
All full-time UG students will be charged as follows:
- Return to study in term 1 – 100% of the annual tuition fee
- Return to study from term 2 – 75% of the annual tuition fee
- Return to study from term 3 – 50% of the annual tuition fee
In general, students are entitled to student funding from Student Finance England for the duration of their course plus one extra year.
Self-paying students will be charged as follows:
- Return to study in term 1 – full fees
- Return to study from term 2 – 2/3 of the full fees
- Return to study from term 3 – 1/3 of the full fees
Financial award repayments
If you change status, or withdraw from your programme of study, you will be liable to repay the award on a pro-rata basis. You will be informed of any outstanding fees due by Finance.
Mitigating circumstances
If you feel there is a Mitigating Circumstance (such as illness or unforeseen circumstances) which has affected your studies, you can submit an application to request changing your status later than the end of October. This should be submitted to the Registry along with documentary evidence. Requests to change your status past the deadline will be considered on a case-by-case basis by Registry.
Student Declaration
By enrolling on a programme of study either online or in person, you are entering into a contract with Trinity Laban and are bound by the information detailed here which outlines the deadlines and financial expectations should you decide to change status, or terminate your studies.

I acknowledge that if I am in attendance during any given term that I will be required to pay the fee for that term, which will be calculated as described in this document.

I understand that if I have a financial award I will also be required to pay back all or part of the award on a pro-rata basis.
In the event that you have not paid the due fees or discharged any other financial obligation to the Institution, Trinity Laban reserves the right to neither to allow you to register nor continue studies, nor award a degree or other certification and reserves the right to take action to recover outstanding monies.
Collection of debt from fully enrolled students
General
In the event of any debt outstanding at the end of a student’s course, the student will not be invited to attend the graduation ceremony and will not receive their graduation certificate until all outstanding monies are paid. Full transcripts on headed paper will not be issued.
Tuition fee debt
A fully enrolled student who has opted to pay by instalments must make all payments by the agreed dates. If a student does not make the second or third payment by the due date, a three-week period will follow where access to our buildings, IT, the Library and practice rooms will be restricted.
The Finance Office will inform the Directors of Music and Dance of those students whose access to facilities is being restricted. If at the end of this three-week period no payment has been made, the student will receive a letter from Finance stating that they must attend a meeting with their Head of Department (or nominated deputy) and a member of Finance and Registry and Student services to see if the situation can be resolved. The student will be notified of the time and date of the meeting and attendance will be compulsory.
The student will be responsible for notifying their teacher where the meeting conflicts with a scheduled class.
If the student does not attend the meeting or no satisfactory agreement for payment has been reached, the student may be excluded with immediate effect. If the student fails to meet a deadline in the payment agreement the student may be excluded with immediate effect.
If tuition fees remain outstanding after the end of the academic year, the debt will be actively pursued by the Finance Office Credit Controllers, and the matter will also be passed to a debt collection agency.
Accommodation Debt
A fully enrolled student who has opted to pay by instalments must make all payments by the agreed dates.
Failure to make payments by the agreed date will result in further action being taken against you and your guarantor and may lead to an eviction process, which will increase the debt owed.
Recovery of debt from excluded students
A student who has been excluded under the terms of these Regulations will be actively pursued by the Finance Office Credit Controllers for the outstanding debt, and the matter will also be passed to a debt collection agency.
Depending on the size of the debt, this may lead to the student having a Court Judgement entered against them.
The Assessment Board reserves the right to advise students to withdraw from the programme where their achievement is not satisfactory. In this event, a term’s fees in lieu of notice will not be payable.
By registering on the programme, students agree to pay the fees and any additional charges prescribed for that programme, in accordance with the published payment schedules.
