Nutrition for Performers
Dance Nutrition/Dietetics can help the dancer perform at
their best, with regard to energy levels, strength, stamina and
good health.
Due to the specific nature of our
Nutritionist's work with performing arts students, she
will only be available to see Trinity Laban students or performing
arts students, not the general public for her Nutritional
Consultations.
About Nutrition
Assessment and review of current food and fluid intakes
will allow tailored advice as to changes required to:
- Improve energy levels
- Speed recovery from injury
- Ensure adequate nutrient intake for dance for those on
vegetarian/vegan diets, those with lactose intolerance or other
proven dietary intolerance/allergy
- Answer queries related to suitable nutrition for their
dance training regime when the existing plan is not proving optimal
for any reason.
Our nutrinitionisy will see individuals or small groups
who have similar areas of concern about dance nutrition to
focus on.
It is always helpful if a detailed food and fluid diary
can be kept for at least 2-3 days prior to an
appointment.
Examples of what can be achieved in different
consultation times:
15 minutes is really designed as a
follow up though it would work for 1 person with one very
focussed straightforward question that doesn't require me to spend
time finding out in depth what they are currently eating/drinking -
for example 'I don't like milk how can I meet my calcium
requirement?'
30 minutes will allow 1 person to get
advice on say 'my energy level is low, what do I need to change' as
I need to ask them in depth what they currently eat and drink -
bringing a few days accurate food record would make the session
much more productive as it can take 20 minutes or more to establish
current intake of food and fluid especially if there are different
patterns due to, for example, work at times. Or 2 people to
look for advice on for example 'is their vegetarian diet
adequate'.
A group of 3+ really need an hour as
they will all have slightly different questions even on the same
topic and often people think of additional questions. If your
budget only runs to half an hour the group would need to stay
very focussed and be aware that they may be left with additional
questions not answered - though of course they could always come
back on another occasion.
In order to give tailored advice there is always a lot of
dialogue establishing circumstances making sure the advice
potentially works for the person, and clarifying uncertainties
