Pilates with Esther White
Esther first became interested in Pilates through her own experience with injury during her dance training at Trinity Laban. She graduated with a BA (Hons) in Dance Theatre in 1998. A year later, after spinal surgery, Pilates as well as massage became invaluable in the rehabilitation process and long term prevention of further damage. Esther became interested in the treatment and prevention of injury and went on to study at the London School of Sports Massage. Her focus has always been on the management of dance injury and she worked for many years as a masseur for The Urdang DanceAcademy in addition to working at Trinity Laban and The Royal Ballet.
She returned to study at the Pilates Teacher Training Programme at Trinity Laban in 2004 and has taught Pilates in a number of London studios and physiotherapy clinics thereafter. Pilates became a perfect combination with the deep tissue massage she had specialised in over the years and she treated many dance injuries through correcting anatomical imbalances and looking at training practices. Part of the process was to equip dancers with the knowledge and skills to manage their own injury and to prevent further injury by looking at their individual bio-mechanics and training. She has always encouraged clients to take responsibility for their own treatment and rehabilitation process. Unsurprisingly, dealing with bad backs has become one of her strengths.
Taking a break to have a family, she has returned to Trinity Laban with a new interest in pre and post-natal Pilates which has been integral in supporting both her pregnancies and post-natal recovery. She enjoys sharing her own experiences with new mums.
Esther also has a keen interest in Anatomy and Physiology and is teaching this on Pilates Teacher Training Programmes of the Pilates Foundation.
