Jazz trio Treehouse, featuring Trinity Laban MMus graduates Tom Hewson and Lewis Wright, has won Help Musicians UK's Emerging Excellence Award.
The trio pitched a Dragon's Den style proposal to music industry experts including multi-platinum selling songwriter and record producer Martin Sutton, owner of RedGrape Records Kerry Harvey-Piper, Simon Greenaway, Director of Film and TV UK/Europe at ASCAP, and Nick Keynes from Tileyard Studios. From over 231 applicants, Treehouse was one of 27 successful acts to receive a grant of up to £3500.
David Sulkin OBE, Executive Director of Help Musicians UK said: "Making it as a musician is a difficult thing if you don't have the funding to get you off the ground. Our Emerging Excellence Awards give a financial boost to young professionals with the best ideas. We are very excited to be supporting such vibrant and ambitious talent."
Tom Hewson from Treehouse said: "We will be shooting a video of the band that will form a central part of the album which we are now able to do on a bigger scale and with a level of creativity that wouldn't otherwise have been possible."
