Trinity Laban music alumnus Gemma Lunt was one of the soloists in last week's BBC's Songs of Praise, playing Amazing Grace.
Gemma is a viola and soprano sax player who suffers visual impairment and is in a wheelchair. She graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in Performance, and has now joined Charles Hazelwood's British Paraorchestra.
Gemma is a Christian and says her faith has helped her to heal. The 29 year old has been involved in music since the age of five, and was partway through her viola studies at Trinity Laban when she suffered an anaphylactic reaction while at the top of the stairs on a double-decker bus - "it was wrong place, wrong time," she says. Since her fall she has been in a wheelchair, suffering from nerve damage and in constant pain. She was told she would never play again, but persevered and managed to resume her course at Trinity Laban.
