2015 graduate Jack Philp has been commissioned by Monmouthshire Youth Dance Company (MYDC) for Dance Blast’s ‘Ignite’ project.
The Ignite project involves MYDC members commissioning two choreographers, from a national and international selection, to create work on them. The project places the young dancers at the centre of the selection and creative process, empowering them to develop new skills. This year they have commissioned Jack Philp and Jamaal Burkmar. Jack is working with existing collaborator, fellow Trinity Laban alumnus and composer Ben Corrigan on the project.
The work which has been developed with MYDC in Wales, will be performed at the The Borough Theatre, Abergavenny in March and The Dance House, Cardiff in April. Jack has previously worked with a number of youth companies and initiatives for young dancers, becoming a keen advocate for nurturing new talent and ambitions.
“I’m excited to be working with a talented group of youth dancers and collaborating with Ben to create a new choreographic work. The opportunity is a fantastic chance for young dancers to really take hold of their development and provides new artists with an exciting platform to share creative ideas”.
