Animate Orchestra goes from strength to strength

Animate Orchestra returns for its autumn half term holiday local courses, using Berio's Folk Songs as inspiration for the new music. Courses are open to young musicians with any level of experience in school Years 5-8 who live or go to school in Greenwich, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark.

Now in its third year, Animate has just secured funding from Berkeley Homes via the Mayor's Fund for Young Musicians and Youth Music to continue Animate WEST in Southwark and Lambeth for a further two years. This is in addition to the current funding for Animate EAST from the Esmeé Fairbairn Foundation.

Over the summer Gawain Hewitt, Animate's resident Music Technologist, delivered a series of music technology sessions to 40 Year 7 pupils in two local schools.

Music Service tutors, London Philharmonic Orchestra musicians and Trinity Laban music technology students provided music technology tuition to students at Harris Academy in Peckham and Prendergast Ladywell Fields College in Lewisham.

Sessions included learning how to use sound editing programmes and creating tangible interactive music installations and instruments through physical computing. Some of the students' work was then showcased at Lewisham People's Day in July.
