Double bass professor answers SOS teaching call in Soweto

Leon Bosch -Buskaid

While in South Africa recently to run in the Two Oceans Ultra Marathon, Trinity Laban double bass professor, Leon Bosch, found himself giving an impromptu teaching lesson at the Buskaid Project in Soweto.

Leon said: "The Buskaid Project is regrettably without a double bass teacher at the moment, and when they heard that I was in the country they put out an SOS for teaching help.

"Working with the young Buskaid bassists was truly a revelation. I have rarely encountered so profound a thirst for knowledge coupled with such fierce determination to learn.

"Buskaid is run by the indefatigable Rosemary Nalden, who has just been awarded Honorary Membership of the Royal Philharmonic Society."

The tour culminates in a performance at the Queen Elizabeth Hall where the Buskaid Soweto String Ensemble will be joined by guest conductor Karl Jenkins CBE for a performance of his Soweto Suite for Strings, which he has dedicated to Buskaid.

Leon also triumphed in the marathon, comfortably completing his first ever ultra-distance 56km race.
