Essential new book on safe dance practice

Essential new book on safe dance practice

Three Trinity Laban MSc Dance Science alumni, Edel Quin and Sonia Rafferty (also MSc Programme Leader and Senior Lecturer at Trinity Laban) with colleague Charlotte Tomlinson are co-authors of Safe Dance Practice: An Applied Dance Science Perspective, published by Human Kinetics on 15 June 2015.

The book offers research-informed dance science recommendations on safe dance practice and performance optimisation that can be integrated into any dance style and applied to dancers of diverse ages, standards, and physical abilities. The multidisciplinary approach guides readers in applying key principles of dancing safely without compromising artistic creativity.

The authors say “Every dancer of every age, ability, and style should be able to engage fully in the act of dancing and be encouraged to achieve their potential without risk of harm to the body or mind – but practical information has not always been easy to find.”

This new resource may well become the “go to” guide for dancers, dance educators, choreographers, dance company directors and studio managers and will be a vital addition to course reading lists.
