Accomplished pianist and Trinity Laban alumnus, Mikhail Shilyaev, has released his first CD, a selection of works by Alexander Tcherepnin (1899-1977).
The album was recorded at the Trinity Laban studio in Greenwich, and begins with archival recordings of the Russian-born Tcherepnin.
Mikhail, a Master's graduate and Golubovich scholar from 2009-11, then plays a selection of attractive, rarely heard works from Tcherepnin, which reviewers say illustrate his Prokofiev-like fondness for spiky humour, pungent harmony and crisp melody.
Mikhail was born in 1979 in Russia and studied at the Moscow State Conservatoire. He has won many competitions and has performed as a soloist and chamber musician throughout Europe. In July 2010 Mikhail won the Bronze Medal at the prestigious Vianna da Motta International Piano Competition in Lisbon.
Last year Mikhail gained his Master's degree in Music studying under acclaimed international pianist and Trinity Laban head of Piano, Professor Deniz Gelenbe
