Hagit Yakira Dance: Free Falling

Award-winning Hagit Yakira Dance will present Free Falling – Double Bill at the Laban Theatre on Thursday 26 January, an open-hearted mixed bill based on stories gathered through Hagit’s years of working as a dance movement therapist.

The evening will open with Air Hunger, an emotive and breath-taking duet, immaculately composed with demanding choreography that leaves the dancers gasping for air. Inspired by the fear and anxiety of suffocation, the performers honestly embody reactions, images and memories, leaving the audience immersed and breathless.

Hagit commented:

Air Hunger started by looking at anxiety attacks - when someone has an anxiety attack the body experiences a lack of air. Some of the stories I heard as a dance movement therapist touched me very deeply, and I felt the need to share an experience that somehow provokes the feelings these people shared with me.”

Completing the evening, Free Falling looks at the fear of falling, failing, and the ambition to recover. This captivating piece by four virtuoso performers takes audiences on a danced journey of trips, false starts, falls and lifts that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Hagit added:

Free Falling initially started by exploring the fear of falling. This fear can prevent people from walking, from leaving their houses; every step they make feels like a risk which might end in a fall without recovery, which also links to the fear of failing.”
