Peter Edwards, Trinity Laban jazz alumnus and recent winner of the best Newcomers Award at the 2015 Parliamentary Jazz Awards, has been selected to appear in Jamie Cullum's BBC Introducing showcase at the Montreal International Jazz Festival.
The Peter Edwards Trio, made up of Peter, Max Luthert and fellow alumnus Moses Boyd, is one of just three UK jazz acts to be selected. The Trio joins Irish singer/songwriter Malaika Shaw and Mammal Hands from Norwich.
Peter says: “I am thrilled to be chosen for the BBC Introducing showcase at Montreal Jazz Festival. It's a tremendous opportunity to present my band and original compositions at an internationally renowned music festival. I'm very excited and can't wait to get out there and experience it.”
In February 2015 Jamie Cullum invited emerging jazz artists from around the UK to share their music with him via the BBC Introducing Uploader. This July BBC Introducing and PRS for Music Foundation are hosting their first ever Showcase at Montreal, one of the biggest and most acclaimed jazz festivals in the world. The Festival sees over 800 concerts take place in the city across 10 days, with legends such as Tony Bennett and Ray Charles playing alongside emerging acts. Jamie Cullum says: “I was looking to find the best in unsigned and under-the-radar music being made by British jazz musicians to be considered for this opportunity so I can have the pleasure of introducing them on stage in North America this summer.” The showcase takes place on 1 July and will be broadcast on BBC R3.
