Jazz graduate nominated for MOBO award

Trinity Laban MMus Jazz graduate Peter Edwards has been nominated for the MOBO Best Jazz Act, competing against Andreas Varady, Jason Rebello, Phronesis and Zara McFarlane for the prestigious award which will be announced in London on 22 October.

Peter released his debut album, Safe and Sound, with The Peter Edwards Trio in March, and it has been receiving rave reviews. Conveying a range of moods and rhythms, Safe and Sound executes a vintage jazz soulfulness that resonates with modern times. The Guardian describes the album as a "...sensitive, impressive debut from a rising piano star.”

Winners of the prestigious Development Award from the Musicians Benevolent Fund, The Peter Edwards Trio have grown their reputation over the past number of years, and Peter has established himself as a bandleader, composer and musical director.

Peter said: “It is wonderful to be recognised in this way by the MOBOs. The nomination will help build my profile and expose my music to new audiences. It's a very exciting time for me.”

Kany King, founder of the MOBOs, said: "I find it particularly exciting to see so many underground artists featured, who've reached new heights over the last year and broken into the wider consciousness. It's testament to their talent and their determination to succeed and we are very proud to witness their successes to date.”
