Jazz _up _west _imageresizeOver 100 Trinity Laban staff and students will be involved in the upcoming Trinity Laban Jazz Festival from Monday 17 - Friday 21 June, based in the stunning grounds of the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich.

Trinity Laban's annual summer jazz festival is a feast of masterclasses, talks and concerts with celebrated international artists and student ensembles, curated by saxophonist and ECM recording artist Martin Speake. This year's offering includes a special double bill of experimental jazz at the Albany Theatre, Deptford and a recital and interview with groundbreaking improviser and innovator, saxophonist Evan Parker.

The festival's central gig at Deptford's Albany on Wednesday 19 June will feature Trinity Laban's Jazz Choir, led by internationally-acclaimed jazz choral director and composer Pete Churchill, and Trinity Laban'sHarmolodic Jazz Ensemble, directed and facilitated by Trinity Laban's Julian Siegel and guest trumpeter Chris Batchelor. An innovative trumpet player, composer and Trinity Laban teacher, Chris also leads several international projects including the quintet "Big Air".

Trinity Laban's Harmolodic Jazz Ensemble was specially created to explore the unique musical philosophy of US saxophonist and composer Ornette Coleman. Coleman's theory of harmolodics seeks to free musical compositions from traditional notions of tonality, tension and release, instead giving equal weight to all its components. The resulting music is particularly open and expressive, focusing on the individual performer's self-expression.

Simon Purcell, Head of Jazz at Trinity Laban, said:

"The Festival is an exciting opportunity to experience jazz at Trinity Laban on the inside and the outside, with some of Britain's finest young jazz talent alongside internationally renowned guest artists and student performers from Britain and beyond."

Inside Out Jazz Festival will also feature performances with leading artists Mark Bassey, Mick Foster, Sid Gauld, Dave Hassell, Stefan Lievestro and Omar Puente.
