Junior Trinity Open Day yields great enthusiasm from prospective students

On 2 February Junior Trinity held its first Main Programme Open Day of 2013, welcoming children and young people from all over London and beyond to have a taste of what the Conservatoire has to offer. Children and their parents had the opportunity to observe choirs, orchestras, General Musicianship classes, large ensembles and chamber groups, as well as the chance to attend a lunchtime concert given by Junior Trinity students. The Open Day also included guided tours of Trinity Laban's historic site with its state-of-the-art facilities, and the opportunity to talk to staff and students informally.

The reaction from children and parents alike was overwhelmingly positive. One parent enthused: "The lunchtime concert was great - enjoyable and an impressive standard. Having the chance to see students taking part in a musicianship class was also very useful - they were engaged, confident, clearly enjoying themselves and were good friends."

Another said: "We had an inspiring time. There was a wonderful 'buzz' throughout the building, and it's so wonderful to see young people so enthusiastic and engaged. The quality of education is second to none and we would be proud to have our child attend this school."

Comments from the children were equally enthusiastic:

"The atmosphere…is very friendly and welcoming. I was very excited to be in such a professional environment. It was even better than I expected."

"The concert showed me how motivated the students are at Junior Trinity, and also the high quality of teaching."

"I thought the quartet was magnificent and I would love to be in one myself."

Junior Trinity is a Saturday Music School for 3-19 year olds. In 1906, Trinity Laban (then Trinity College of Music) was the first UK Conservatoire to open its doors to schoolchildren. Since then, thousands of young people have benefited from opportunities to make music as individuals and in a wide variety of small and large ensembles. From Trinity Teenies aged 3-5 right through to university and conservatoire entrance, our aim is to encourage a lifelong interest in music and to give our students the opportunities to develop to their maximum potential.

Junior Trinity will hold its next Open Day on Saturday April 27.
