This October, the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) is presenting a free exhibition celebrating the 20th Anniversary Stirling Prize Exhibition. Included in the exhibition is our very own Laban Building, designed by Herzog & de Meuron, which was awarded the prize in 2003.
The RIBA Stirling Prize is the most prestigious architecture award in the UK, and is judged rigorously on a range of criteria by three separate panels. RIBA’s comments on the Laban Centre were: ‘The judges thought this to be an extraordinarily fine building, one that raises the expectations of architecture, in its engagement both with art forms and with the local context; it makes a major contribution to the artistic life of the community while acting as a catalyst to the regeneration of the whole area.’
A model of the Laban building is being exhibited alongside models of the other winners at The Royal Institute of British Architects from 13 October to 17 November. For more information visit https://www.architecture.com/WhatsOn/October2015/20YearsoftheRIBAStirlingPrizeExhibition.aspx
In tandem with the RIBA exhibition, Trinity Laban is running guided tours of the Laban Building, so people can experience this ground-breaking design first-hand. Visitors can see for themselves the astounding use of light, colour and space which makes the Laban Centre such an inspiring place to study.
