Trinity Laban alumni and Honorary Companion Matthew Bourne has been awarded the De Valois Award for outstanding achievement for his 25 years of inventive dance making. The award was given by the Critics' Circle at the National Dance Awards in January.
Following on from this success, New Adventures production of Sleeping Beauty has just received four nominations for choreography, set design, costume design and lighting for the 2013 Los Angeles Drama Critics' Circle.
Matthew created and became artistic director of his first company Adventures in Motion Pictures while studying dance at Trinity Laban (then Laban Centre). Matthew graduated in 1985 and then toured with Trinity Laban's Transitions Dance Company for a year. In 2002 Matthew established New Adventures.
The National Dance Awards celebrate the incredible diversity of dance in the UK. Matthew said: "To be mentioned in the same breath as de Valois is incredible. I've had my ups and downs with the critics but the audience has always been there and stayed loyal".
The 45th annual Los Angeles Drama Critics' Circle Awards ceremony will take place on 17 March.
