Paul Ellison, former Principal Double Bass of the Houston Symphony orchestra, visited Trinity Laban in May to work with students from the Double Bass Department.
Supported by accompanist Irina Lyakhovskaya, selected double bass students performed Telemann, Vivaldi and other works, receiving critique and praise from one of the world's finest exponents.
Paul is also the Lynette S. Autrey Professor of Double Bass and Chair of Strings at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music; and is also on the faculty of the Colburn School Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles. As well as his 23 years with the Houston Symphony he worked for several years as Principal Double Bass of the Santa Fe Opera; and was for seven years Chair of Strings at the University of Southern California. He is currently co-principal bass at the Grand Teton Festivals.
Paul holds the first Diploma and Teaching Certificate awarded by the Institute Rabbath in Paris and is past president of the International Society of Bassists. Paul continues to be a great influence in the realm of string pedagogy as he influences young players internationally.

In September 2103 Trinity Laban also appointed virtuoso double bassist Leon Bosch as a member of the Strings Department. From South Africa, Leon has established an international reputation as a leading champion of the double bass. Currently principal double bass with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, Leon is much sought after as a chamber musician, recitalist and concerto soloist, and his infectious enthusiasm has done much to raise the profile of the double bass on the concert platform.
