The up and coming septet, including five Trinity Laban alumni, have been named as City Music Foundation Artists for 2016.
Jazz alumni Sheila Maurice-Grey (trumpet), Rosie Turton (trombone), Cassie Kinoshi (alto saxophone), Nubya Garcia (tenor saxophone) and Lizy Exel (drums) play in Nérija, alongside Shirley Tetteh (guitar) and Inga Eichler (double bass). The collective play exciting and innovative music inspired by Jazz, Hip Hop, Afrobeat and Hi-life.
The annual City Music Foundation competition aims to turn outstanding musical talent into professional success by equipping musicians with the tools they need to form fulfilling and sustainable careers. The selected artists participate in a unique two-year programme, providing them with unrivalled support and education.
Nérija have also been nominated for the Jazz FM Breakthrough Act of the Year 2016 and have toured across Europe and the UK. They have performed alongside top UK jazz musicians such as Nathaniel Facey of Empirical, pianist Zoe Rahman, and supporting Jazz Jamaica at the renowned Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club.

Nérija will launch their new EP on 17th November 2016 at Ray's Jazz Foyles as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival.
