Trinity Laban’s new Students Union President, Katrina Wilson, took a few minutes out from meeting students at the many Freshers Week activities to chat about how the autumn term has been so far.
“There have been some really exciting improvements over the summer,” she said. “The new SU space at the Laban Building will make a huge difference to students and really make our services much more accessible. We’re also improving the SU space in the basement of King Charles Court to encourage all students to come and see us. This is my mission for the next few weeks – to make myself and the other members of the SU as visible as possible.
Katrina has just finished a four year BMus as a mezzo-soprano in the vocal department, and will split her time equally between the two faculty SU offices, as well as continuing to do solo singing work along with the occasional gig as a backing singer for Martin Creed.
“It is my intention to ensure that the opinions of the students are heard and everything that can be done to improve your student experience is. This includes anything from improving your SU space to just being there for a chat.
“Another key element of my manifesto was collaboration – I really want music and dance students to mix more in social events, so as a team the SU will be working out a plan of action once the new term has settled down. We will also be working with the Marcomms team to produce new Trinity Laban-branded merchandise, which should be available by December, if not before.”
In the meantime look out for Katrina, Claire-Louise and Mathilde, who are working hard to meet as many students as possible during these first few weeks of term.
