Philharmonia Orchestra players perform with Trinity Laban students in Side-By-Side series

Trinity Laban’s popular Side-By-Side series will return on Friday 1 May with players from the Philharmonia Orchestra, performing Richard Strauss’ challenging yet popular tone poems.

Performing Strauss’ notoriously challenging yet enduringly popular Don Juan and Tod und Verklärung (Death and Transfiguration), students will have the opportunity to gain invaluable mentorship from experienced musicians from a world leading orchestra.

Head of orchestral studies and conductor of the Side-By-Side series, Jonathan Tilbrook says: “The music of Richard Strauss is a key part of the orchestral repertoire and these works regularly appear in auditions. Not only will students gain first-hand experience performing these challenging works, but they will also gain invaluable advice from members of this leading orchestra.”

The Side-By-Side series was launched as a pilot programme in 2013 and sees Trinity Laban students performing key orchestral repertoire alongside experienced professionals. Each project culminates in front of a large audience at a free rush-hour public performance at Blackheath Halls.

The series has proven to be popular, with only standing room at recent events. To book tickets, visit the Trinity Laban event page
