Trinity Laban Alumni return to work with final year dance students

BA3 Male dancer

This summer, Trinity Laban welcomes back three esteemed alumni to work with final year undergraduate dance students on their end of year show.

A total of five choreographers – Charles Linehan, Marie-Gabrielle Rotie, Lea Anderson, Stephanie Schober and Matthias Sperling – have each spent time working with students to create new pieces. Of these five, three are alumni with flourishing careers.:

  • Award-winning choreographer and artist Lea Anderson MBE is best known for her work as the co-founder and Artistic Director of The Cholmondeleys and The Featherstonehaughs, with whom she created over 100 original dance shows.
  • Stephanie Schober is Artistic Director of the Stephanie Schober Dance Company (“pure physical poetry” - The Stage). Her piece Traffic was first performed at the Laban Theatre in 2011.
  • Matthias Sperling was a member of Transitions Dance Company in 1997-1998. Since then, his choreographed works have been presented at Tate Modern, Tate Britain, Southbank Centre, Royal Opera House and Dance Umbrella among others. He also collaborates regularly with Siobhan Davies.

Head of Undergraduate Studies Colin Bourne says, “It’s great for students to get the chance to work with established artists, particularly those who have a close relationship with Trinity Laban. It allows them to see what a career in dance can be like, and helps them to forge links with people who could be their mentors and colleagues in the future.”

BA3 Commissioned Work will be performed at the Laban Theatre on 2 and 3 July 2015 at 7.30pm. Tickets are £6/£4.
