Will Aitchison, lead teacher with Trinity Laban's Centre for Advanced Training, has been selected for Dance UK's 2014 Dance Teaching Mentoring Programme.
Run in partnership with Youth Dance England, the National Dance Teachers Association and Dancers' Career Development, the eight month long programme builds on existent skills to enhance the potential for dance teachers to become leaders within the dance community.
Will commented: "Leadership is inherent to anyone in the performing arts as we are constantly dealing with aspects of it, from conception and completion of school projects to managing dynamic, artistic and individual practitioners. I hope that this will let me see how to challenge the orthodoxy of how contemporary dance and other dance forms are taught and engage others in the field to do the same .
"The mentoring scheme will give me the skills to lead my colleagues in a collaborative manner to effectively achieve the goals of the CAT programme and beyond".
Will graduated from The Place with an BA Hons in Contemporary Dance and then joined Transitions Dance Company at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. He went on to tour extensively with Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake. As Co-director of company Anecdotal Evidence, Will recently appeared as part of Resolution! at The Place.
