Trinity Laban lecturer invited to be Steinway Artist

Trinity Laban Professor of Performing Practice, Karl Lutchmayer, has become the latest to join the prestigious Steinway Artist list.

Steinway & Sons has cultivated special relationships with pianists from every genre for decades, and Karl joins an illustrious group of artists, including Lang Lang, Diana Krall, Billy Joel and Mitsuko Uchida.

Karl has had a long association with Steinway over his career, starting with lurking in Steinway Hall as a budding pianist and member of Junior Trinity: "They would invite me in and let me play the concert pianos. Twelve lined up in a row is quite a thrill for a piano geek."

The invitation came when he was in India recently to showcase Steinway pianos. He thinks what may have clinched it was his quote about why he loved this world famous instrument:

"On a good day, when everything is going fabulously, the Steinway is my best friend. On a bad day, when nothing goes right, it's my only one."

A classic car fanatic, Karl said he was also delighted to be asked to launch the new BMW Steinway series when he was in India - a new car with the interior designed by Steinway.
