Trinity Laban music librarian takes up exciting new role in Qatar

Ben Gould (portrait)Ben Gould, Trinity Laban's Orchestra Manager and Music Librarian, is heading off in September for his next challenge as Head Orchestra Librarian for the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra in Doha.

With experience at the London Symphony Orchestra, Royal Opera House and English Chamber Orchestra under his belt, Ben came to Trinity Laban nearly two years ago.

A relatively young orchestra, the Qatar Philharmonic was founded in 2007 to perform and promote Western and Arabic music. Its fundamental aim is to inspire the people of Qatar and the Arab world to create and enjoy music. The Philharmonic regularly hosts new and established composers, soloists and conductors of the Arab world, and the orchestra has given world premieres of several new symphonic works.

Ben said:

"Having worked for three well established orchestras prior to starting at Trinity Laban I have very much enjoyed sharing that knowledge and experience with the students here. As the QPO is a fairly new orchestra with a relatively young average age, and with some orchestra members only three or four years out of music college, this is the perfect opportunity for me to continue being involved with exciting, upcoming musicians in a part of the world where classical music is still very new to Middle Eastern ears."
