Trinity Laban pianist plays reformulated Bach in live broadcast

Elena RiuVenezuelan pianist and Trinity Laban Professor Elena Riu will feature in a live broadcast on BBC R3 this week in advance of the second Stoke Newington Contemporary Music Festival. The Stoke Newington Festival is one of just a handful curated by musicians.

Elena will discuss and present music from Inventions and Visions, a creative process sparking new connections between Bach and contemporary composers, conceived and informed by his 'Inventiones'. With this collection Elena has gathered a selection of pieces which distil new material out of the old.

Elena said: "Bach's ideas are reformulated using different parameters, styles and musical languages by an army of twentieth and twenty first century composers - old and new unravel latent connections where boundaries between styles melt in a constant exchange and renewal of vows."

"The delicate precision of her playing leaves a wonderful sense of anticipation before every next move." The Observer.

In Tune - BBC Radio 3 live broadcast Fri 1 Nov, 16.15pm.
