Trinity Laban student wins coveted Boise Scholarship Award

Naufal _mukumi _resizeTrinity Laban piano student Naufal Mukumi has been awarded one of the coveted Boise Foundation scholarships for 2013, following competitive auditions in April.

Of the 27 nominations, only five were awarded scholarships, each to enable the student to continue to pursue their instrumental studies - and Naufal was the only pianist among them.

Born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, Naufal began his piano studies at the age of seven. After winning several prizes in international piano competitions, he left Uzbekistan aged 16 and entered the Purcell School of Music to study with Tessa Nicholson.

Naufal is completing his fourth undergraduate year at Trinity Laban, studying under Head of Piano, Deniz Gelenbe. This is the second time he has been awarded a Boise Scholarship, having also won one in 2011.

The Boise Scholarship Foundation is part of The Mendelssohn Scholarship Foundation. Trustees include Trinity Laban's Deputy Director of Music, Jeremy Ward.
