Trombone professor wins international award

Trinity Laban bass trombone professor, Roger Argente, has been awarded the International Trombone Association President's Award for his many years of dedicated playing.

Roger, who has also been Principal Bass Trombonist with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra for the last 22 years, also regularly appears with the London Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonia, BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House and many others.

Roger is also hugely in demand as a session musician and has recorded film scores for top studio composers and worked on big screen blockbusters such as Gladiator, Sleepy Hollow, Inception, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Batman and the James Bond franchise.

ITA President Jiggs Whigham presented Roger with the President's Award "…for tenacity, dedication and love of playing and producing superb brass ensemble music."

Ian Mitchell, Head of Wind, Brass and Percussion at Trinity Laban, said: "Roger is a wonderful enthusiast for all he does, and his enthusiasm is infectious.  He is an excellent role model for students; a rewarding colleague to work with, and utterly dedicated to developing brass playing at all levels, from the youngest school child to his work with professionals of the highest quality."
