Viola student to represent Wales in International Regional Orchestra

Elin Parry, an MMus viola student and Stanley Picker Scholar at Trinity Laban, has been selected to represent Wales this summer in the International Regional Orchestra (IRO).

Every year, more than 100 student musicians aged 16-27 from all over the world come together in the IRO for an intensive two week rehearsal period, followed by a concert tour. The orchestra performs throughout Germany, and has also performed in China, Moscow and at a concert in Rome with actor Klaus Maria Brandauer, following an invitation from His Holiness the Pope.

This year’s conductor will be Wolfram Christ, who will direct a programme of Mozart and Bruckner in venues across Germany from 16 to 21 July.

Nic Pendlebury, Head of Strings at Trinity Laban, says: “This is a wonderful opportunity for Elin, working in this great orchestra under the baton of Wolfram Christ who is himself a wonderful violist and ex Principal Viola if the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. Elin has made great progress over the last few years and this opportunity is nothing more than she deserves.”

Elin is just the latest student from Trinity Laban’s international renowned Strings Department to go on to orchestral success. Strings students benefit from participating in our innovative Side by Side orchestral projects, and from learning with professors who themselves perform with the world’s top orchestras.
