This conference brought together some of the most
important Nancarrow scholars and commentators from around the world
to explore the composer's continuing and developing influence on
contemporary musical thinking.
Featuring keynote presentations from:
- Charles Amirkhanian (USA), Artistic Director of Other
Minds who produced and promoted Nancarrow's music and is
responsible, perhaps more than any other person, for helping the
composer achieve recognition.
- Kyle Gann (Bard College, USA), author of the most
important text on the subject - The Music of Conlon
Nancarrow
plus presentations from:
- Yoko Sugiura-Nancarrow, Conlon's widow (Mexico)
- Felix Meyer (Switzerland), author and Director of the
Paul Sacher Foundation in Basal, which holds the archive of
Nancarrow's work.
- Sound sculptor Trimpin (USA), whose installation
'Conloninpurple' was presented in the QEH Foyer this
weekend
- Dominic Murcott (Trinity Laban, UK) with a live
performance from percussionist Joby Burgess
