RICHARD CARNE INTERCOLLEGIATE STRING QUARTET COMPETITION

The string quartet “champions” from each of the UK Conservatoires compete for this year’s intercollegiate string quartet prize. Participants must perform at least one movement from a Classical work, a contrasting piece and a new set work written by a Trinity Laban composition student, selected by prior competition. Trinity Laban gratefully acknowledges the support of The Richard Carne Trust.

MUSIC FOR SILENT MOVIES
Transform Programme

Join young string players from our Transform and Junior Trinity programmes as they perform their own newly created music for silent movies. Under the direction of staff and students from Trinity Laban, the musicians have worked together over 6 weeks exploring silent movies and the techniques required for creating accompanying scores.

TALK AND SILENT FILM SCREENING: NOSFERATU
with live score performed by Quatuor Prima Vista

Join us for a screening of the legendary silent film Nosferatu, featuring live musical accompaniment from Quatuor Prima Vista. Prima Vista has established an international reputation for its accompaniment of silent films, with original film scores composed by violist Baudime Jam. The screening of this vampire classic from 1922 promises to be one of the highlights of the weekend.

Preceding the screening, Baudime Jam will give a half an hour talk entitled Making Music for Silent Movies.

Boccherini Guitar Quintet in D major, G 448 'Fandango'
Shostakovich Quartet No 9 in E flat major

The Carducci Quartet makes a welcome return to the festival, performing Boccherini’s Fandango Guitar Quintet, featuring Trinity Laban student Stefan Melovski, Shostakovich’s 9th Quartet and Philip Glass’s ‘Mishima’ Quartet, made famous as the soundtrack of the 1985 film based on the life and work of Japanese writer Yukio Mishima.
