QuickSearch for Trinity Laban Libraries allows current Trinity Laban students and staff to search the majority of the libraries’ online subscriptions in one place. Trinity Laban is proud to have been one of the first conservatoires to have implemented such a discovery tool, which makes it easier for students and staff to find relevant and reliable online research, recordings and scores. Current students and staff can use the QuickSearch box on the right-hand side of the page to start their search.

Featured Text-Based and Sheet Music Resources

Oxford Music Online

This online version of the renowned Grove Music Dictionary is an excellent starting point for research. It is regularly updated and includes the searchable full text of the New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians (2nd ed.), the New Grove Dictionary of Opera and the New Grove Dictionary of Jazz (2nd ed.).

Classical Scores Library volumes I and II

Over 600,000 pages of online scores to support learning, teaching and research in one easy-to-use interface. Scores can be read online or printed for study or practice. The collection includes both historical and contemporary composers.

African American Music Reference

A reference database chronicling the rich history of African American music including jazz and blues. It provides coverage of a wide range of material types, including discographies, biographies, anthologies, encyclopaedias, photographs and other images, lyrics, chronologies, and textbooks.

Drama Online

A large collection of play texts and writings on theatre and drama.

JSTOR (Music Collection)

An archive containing the complete, searchable full text of over 30 full text scholarly music journals. Articles can be read online or printed in PDF format. Journal issues are added to the archive after a period of 0-10 years depending on the publisher and title, so the availability of recent content will vary.

RILM Abstracts of Music Literature

RILM is a comprehensive bibliography of writings on music serving the global music research community, covering journal articles, books, theses, conference proceedings and so on. Publications originate from over 170 countries. There are currently over 800,000 records in RILM on classical music, traditional music and popular music. Coverage of all document types begins in 1967. All references include abstracts and some link to full text available online via the library’s other subscriptions.

Featured Audio and Video Resources

Naxos Music Library

A resource which allows users to listen to tracks from over 100,000 CDs online, including all Naxos releases and recordings from a number of other publishers. The recordings are mainly of classical music, but some jazz and musical theatre recordings are available. The text of many CD liner notes can also be accessed and searched. Free apps for mobile access are available for Apple iOS and Android devices. The library also holds a subscription to Naxos Music Library Jazz, a separate service providing access to over 100,000 jazz tracks.

Jazz Music Library

Over 500,000 streaming jazz music tracks with new tracks added monthly, featuring thousands of different jazz performers. Covers all major jazz genres including vocal jazz, bebop, acid jazz, big band music, modern jazz, and more.

Classical Music in Video

A streaming video collection to support the study of classical music. It currently provides streaming access to more than 400 hours of video and new titles are regularly added. The database includes videos of performances of all forms of music, including major orchestral performances by leading orchestras, plus chamber music, oratorio, and solo performances; masterclasses and interviews with master teachers from around the world and documentaries profiling classical artists and their work.

Opera in Video

Over 500 hours of streaming video relating to opera, including staged productions, interviews, and documentaries. Selections represent the world’s best performers, conductors, and opera houses and are based on a work’s importance to the operatic canon. Features include subtitles in multiple languages, scene selection and mobile streaming.

Free Online Music Resources

The Jerwood Library uses an online service called Diigo.com to list free online music resources which staff and students may find useful. To narrow the list down, follow the link then start typing a topic of interest into the ‘filter by tags’ box near the top of the page.
