Youth Dance England has produced the following publications around the themes of dance in education and the future development of children and young people's dance in England:

Dance In and Beyond Schools - An essential guide to dance teaching and learning 
This guide aims to give teachers and dance practitioners essential information and support on dance teaching and learning both in and beyond the school environment. It includes advice on how to plan dance classes in a step-by-step fashion, how to develop individual and group skills, tips on how to inspire young people to create, watch and appreciate dance, and highlights the benefits of dance on young peoples' health.  The guide can be downloaded from the Youth Dance England website.

Young People's Dance: A Ten Year Vision 
This collaborative publication sets a vision for the development of dance for children and young people in England for the next ten years. This publication can be downloaded from the Youth Dance England website.

Finding Work

The Dance Register 
This UK Register of Dance Teachers, Leaders and Artists has been created by the Dance Training & Accreditation Partnership (DTAP) to provide a nationally recognised, free to search 'one-stop shop' for people looking for a suitably qualified and/or experienced dance teacher in their area.  If you are a member of a Gateway Organisation (such as Dance UK or The Foundation for Community Dance) you can join The Dance Register for £15 per year (usual price £40).

  • Community Dance - a good source of advertised positions
  • One Dance UK - includes a searchable directory of jobs and funding opportunities

  • The Place - sign up free to access JUICE, an online resource for dance professionals, which includes some vacancies in teaching

One Dance UK has advice and information about what insurance dance teachers need, including an explanation of professional indemnity insurance and public liability insurance.

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check

Here you will find advice on obtaining a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check if you are interested in working with children and/or vulnerable adults and wish to gain employment or work experience doing so.  The Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) is now called the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) - CRB checks are now called DBS checks.
