Trinity Laban

Alison Wells was born in Yorkshire and originally trained as a pianist. She made her South Bank debut as a vocalist in the Park Lane Group's January Series, and in the same year sang the Governess in the Turn of the Screw and took part in Elisabeth Schwarzkopf's Masterclasses at the Wigmore Hall. Since then she has appeared in all the major London concert halls and in many festivals both at home and abroad.

A large part of Alison Wells' work is in the field of contemporary music, and she has sung with London Sinfonietta, Matrix, Lontano, Music Projects/London, Composers' Ensemble, Psappha, Gemini, Ensemble Corrente, Apartment House, the french ensemble 2e2m, the Schoenberg Ensemble and ASKO in Amsterdam, and Champ d'Action in Antwerp. She broadcast regularly for Radio 3 as soloist and as recitalist with her late husband Martyn Parry.

Recent projects have been the premières of Colin Riley's Break, break, break on the sheltering bars with the Smith Quartet and his “A Stranger called this morning” with Kokoro as well as Deirdre Gribbin’s “Mare Tran” with the Irish Chamber Orchestra and new songs for voice and piano by Sadie Harrison, Andrew Keeling and Gabriel Jackson. She has given performances of Stravinsky’s “Les Noces” with James Wood for WDR in Cologne; Boulez’s “Le Marteau sans Maître” with Edwin Roxburgh; Schoenberg's Das Buch der hängenden Gärten in Bath, London, Cambridge and Durham; Schoenberg's Pierrot Lunaire with the London Sinfonietta at the Flanders Festival and in Manchester, and with Gemini in Durham, as well as singing at Ronnie Scott's.
