Live at Trinity Laban is the headline performance event of the annual Lewisham Live festival, celebrating the best of music and dance performance from children and young people, local schools and communities across the London borough of Lewisham.
The event takes place at the prestigious Laban Theatre in March, within the award-winning Laban Building in Deptford.
Music and dance collaboration
Live at Trinity Laban brings together the art forms of music and dance by providing a collaborative, interdisciplinary performance platform and opportunities to create work of artistic excellence.
An exciting performance programme consists of pieces developed by local school groups, and is headlined by a unique music and dance collaboration co-created by young musicians from Animate Orchestra’s senior ensemble, Animate Artists, and dancers from the Trinity Laban Youth Dance Programme.
In preparation for this headline piece, young artists work together for 5 months to develop creative ideas, with support from experienced professional music and dance artists.
New for 2017, Live at Trinity Laban will also showcase new work developed by the Creative Collective; a group of 30 young choreographers and composers (aged 15 – 19) under the mentorship of a professional composer and choreographer.
How do I take part?
Live at TL Dance Company
Every October, we recruit up to 20 dancers aged between 14–19 for the collaborative music and dance project. You need to have at least two years' experience of contemporary dance or another dance style. However, we are looking for dancers with great potential and the right attitude, irrespective of technical ability.
To be part of the Live at TL Dance Company you need to attend an audition workshop on Tuesday 25 October 17.30h-20.30h. If you would like to attend this audition workshop, please download the information pack and application form, fill in the form, and send it to Emily Robinson at [email protected], by Friday 21 October.

The opportunity to become an Animate Artist and perform at Live at Trinity Laban is by invitation only. Invitation is on the basis of your involvement in Animate Orchestra to-date. Instrumentalists and music technologists can take part, and an invitation to participate takes into account your playing ability, creativity, attitude, and enthusiasm for collaborative working.
