
From contemporary jazz to afrobeat, blues, funk and gospel, from the rhythms of Asia to sounds of New Orleans, Greenwich Jazz 2011 presents a world of jazz in an unparalleled historic setting. Running from November 11th-20th, 10 days of performances, workshops and events form the winter celebration of The Greenwich Festivals season, supported by Greenwich Council.
Artists Soweto Kinch, Cleveland Watkiss, Empirical, Ian Shaw,
Lianne Carroll and Arun Ghosh, to name but a few, bring sensational
performances to the National Maritime Museum, Blackheath Halls and
Charlton House, as well as established venues, jazz clubs and
schools.
Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance takes the reigns
this year as festival producer, bringing a new focus on emerging
artists, in association with Loop Collective and the London Jazz
Festival.The Greenwich Alternativeshowcases British and European
talent, making jazz music for the MySpace generation, and
culminates inSonorous,a club night featuring Leafcutter John
andNostalgia 77'sBen Lamdin. The jazz establishment have their say
at our 'Jazz Any Questions' event, before MOBO winners Empirical
hot foot it from Southbank Centre to perform alongside Trinity
Laban students at Blackheath Halls.
There are lots of opportunities to Take Part, free and low costs
events for all the family, day and night. Don't miss De Jongen's
Driest, the world's smallest brass band, popping up somewhere near
you.
