Adrian Clarke Memorial Awards

Thu 29 August 2024

Three Trinity Laban vocal students have received substantial financial awards, given in memory of the English baritone Adrian Clarke.

Adrian studied at the Royal College of Music and the London Opera Centre, and had a varied and successful career, singing all over the UK and the world from the Royal Opera, Glyndebourne, Scottish Opera, and Welsh National Opera to the Royal Danish Opera, La Fenice, the Dutch National Opera, and many more. He sang at the Bregenz festival for 12 years.

Adrian died in 2020. Covent Garden dedicated a performance of Andre Chenier in his memory in May this year.

The awards have been made possible by Adrian’s wife, mezzo-soprano Sarah Pring – who teaches at Trinity Laban – along with friends and family. They have been awarded to singers showing talent and personality that would have interested Adrian.

We are extremely grateful for Sarah in coming to us with this thoughtful way of remembering Adrian, and we are sure the awardees will carry on his spirit.
