Alexandrina Hemsley

Dancer, Choreographer

My time at Trinity Laban was challenging and rewarding in equal measure. The physical and choreographic training by inspirational staff prepared me for a career as an independent maker. The friendships and connections I made there are ones I still draw on in my professional career today.

Alexandrina Hemsley graduated in 2009 after completing a BA (Hons) Contemporary Dance. Since graduating, she has been working as a performer and choreographer. Her own work has been shown at Chisenhale Dance Space, Battersea Arts Centre, The Yard, Camden’s People’s Theatre, Lilian Baylis and Chelsea theatre amongst others. She collaborates with fellow alumni Rosie Heafford and Helena Webb on the ongoing project Dad Dancing. She also works with choreographer and performer Jamila Johnson-Small on Project O, which is also ongoing. The collaboration looks at the politics and fall out from being black, mixed and female and trying to move on from these. So far they have made a duet, O, and a book called A Contemporary Struggle. Alexandrina is also one of the editors of Bellyflop Magazine.
