John Summers graduated from Trinity College of Music, now Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in 1975, studying cello. After graduating John worked as a freelance cellist with the Northern Sinfonia, he then moved into administration and management for a number of years and became Chief Executive Officer of the Sinfonia in 1992. Since 1999 he has been Chief Executive of the Hallé Orchestra. John is also a member of the Board of the Association of British Orchestras, and was Lead Adviser for Music to the Arts Council of England. As well as this he is a Governor for the Royal Northern School of Music and the Honorary President of the Lakeland Sinfonia.
