Kay Charlton


Kay graduated from the Teaching Musician MA course in 2018 and was awarded the Director’s Prize for Excellence in Music. She teaches brass and curriculum music, specialising in KS2. She plays, composes and arranges for Bollywood Brass Band whose CD Carnatic Connection was nominated for a Songlines World Music Award 2017. She also leads on their education work and founded the Bollywood Brass Academy.

Kay was commissioned to compose songs for a new KS1 scheme of work for the pBuzz (Warwick Music/MES), which was awarded five stars in the Teach Primary Awards 2018. She has presented her WCET research at conferences, led on CPD for Music Education Hubs and has written a book and online resource of WCET repertoire, Are You Ready?

She has composed for TCL’s piano syllabus and written a series of brass and wind tutor books in a Bollywood style. Tubalosity was selected by Kenyon Wilson at Indiana University as part of the Fifteen Minutes of Fame series.
