Jazz Trumpeter, Composer
Trinity Laban provided me invaluable time to develop my own individual voice as an artist as well as the space to hone my craft as a trumpet player. To be amongst such inspiring, open-minded musicians, both on the teaching faculty and fellow students undoubtedly shaped the musician I am today.
Laura Jurd graduated in 2013 with a BMus Jazz. Since graduating she has established herself as a trumpet player, composer and improviser. The Laura Jurd Quartet, featuring fellow alumni Elliot Galvin, Corrie Dick and Conor Chaplin, play regularly at London’s leading jazz venues. She has composed for a variety of ensembles, including the Chaos Orchestra, Mark Lockheart and the Ligeti Quartet and released her debut album in 2012 to critical acclaim. Laura is co-founder of Chaos Collective which brings together some of the UK’s most diverse young improvisers and also offers educational programmes for school. The collective won the Musician’s Benevolent Fund’s development award in 2012 and 2014. Laura was shortlisted for the 2013 BASCA British Composer Award and was awarded the 2012 Worshipful Company of Musician's Jazz Award and a 2015 Parlimentary Jazz Award for Jazz Instumentalist of the Year.
While at Trinity Laban Laura recieved a Trinity Laban Scholarship and a TCL Choral Scholarship.
