Transitions Dance Company provided an invaluable platform from which to enter into the professional dance world. The range of choreographers helped to understand the diverse demands of the industry and nourished my creativity and development as an artist. Concluding my studies with a Masters challenged and stimulated both my critical thinking and academic writing.
Mirjam Gurtner
Biography
Mirjam Gurtner graduated with an MA in Dance Performance (Transitions Dance Company) in 2003. As a freelance artist she performed with Dance Theatre of Ireland, Henri Oguike, Felix Ruckert, Fleur Darkin, Jane Turner, Tavaziva Dance, ACE Dance and Music, Robert Moses and Zurich Ballet.
She joined Candoco Dance Company in 2011 and has created work with Thomas Hauert, Hetain Patel, Rachid Ouramdane, Trisha Brown Company, Javier de Frutos and Claire Cunningham, as well as performing for Wendy Houstoun, Nigel Charnock, Emanuel Gat and in the Beijing Olympics 2008 and London Paralympics 2012. Her own work has been performed in London, Berlin and Ireland, including collaborations with visual artist Lise Chevalier for their 24-hour performance installation DreamWalking XXIV, II and with multidisciplinary artist Javier Cura for their duet Inside, Outside, On! Mirjam has facilitated contemporary dance, composition and improvisation workshops throughout Europe and is a certified Qi Gong/Tai Ji Quan teacher.
