There is no doubt that my interest in working outside the mainstream, both in context and in who I worked with and involved in my work, was fed at [Trinity] Laban through its ethos and the wide ranging studies we undertook. I am so thankful for the encouragement given to me.

Biography

Rosemary Lee graduated in 1981 with a BA Contemporary Dance. Since then, she has established herself as a leading choreographer, creating large-scale, site-specific pieces with intergenerational casts, films for broadcast and interactive video installations. Her work is characterised by an interest in creating a moving portraiture of both the individuals and the close performing communities she brings together, whilst also exploring and highlighting our relationship with our environment. 

Rosemary has been commissioned by Ricochet Dance Company, Transitions Dance Company, Dance Umbrella, Derry City of Culture, Migrations Festival, Milton Keynes International Festival, Groundwork, First Light Festival and Zfin Malta. She is an Affiliate Artist at The Place and a Senior Research Fellow at CDaRE Coventry University. Her many awards include Dance Umbrella / Time Out Award, Jerwood Choreographic Research Award, two Bonnie Bird Choreography awards and Festival Prize at Light Moves for the filmLiquid Gold is the Air. Rosemary holds an Honorary Doctorate from Roehampton University and is an Honorary Fellow of Trinity Laban. Her work is produced by Artsadmin.
