Trinity Laban offered me a framework in which I analysed and strengthened my experience as a dancer, choreographer and teacher and took me to another level as an artist. In my study in Community Dance, I rediscovered the reason, effect and purpose of dance.

Biography

Sayaka graduated in 2016 with a Postgraduate Diploma in Community Dance. She has also trained in Japan, USA and Israel. During her study at Trinity Laban, Sayaka was awarded The Sylvia Bodmer Memorial Fund Award for Outstanding Achievement in Choreological Studies. Between 2009 and 2015 Sayaka was based in Amsterdam and worked frequently with Katie Duck (MAGPIE Umbrella) as an improviser. Her choreographic work has been shown in various international festivals and venues in the Netherlands, France, Israel, Greece and Japan and she was a finalist of Yokohama dance collection EX with her work ‘A bite’. In 2017, she graduated with a Masters of Visual arts and Performing Arts from the Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha and she is currently based in Madrid and Kyoto. She now works as a dance teacher in Spain, Japan and Sweden and is developing performance projects.
